Zithromax

Zithromax (azithromycin) can be prescribed by your health care provider if you have some kind of bacterial infection – it can be a skin infection, a sexually transmitted diseases and any other condition of this kind. This drug is efficient in the treatment of all the infections mentioned, but it is not expected to be efficient in the treatment of viral infections, such as cold or flu, and should be never used for their treatment therefore. There are a number of medicines that have been reported to cause interference with Zithromax – and therefore are not supposed to be used along with it. The following medicines should be reported to your health care provider, as they can cause interference with Zithromax, making your treatment less efficient: warfarin, digoxin, calcium channel blocker, ergot medicine, phenytoin, pimozide, theophylline, carbamazepine, cyclosporine, triazolam, HIV medicines, some other antibiotics, and cholesterol-lowering medicines. Please make sure you always tell your health care provider if you are planning to start taking any new medications along with Zithromax to see if their combination is going to be safe and beneficial for you. To make sure you are prescribed the lowest most efficient dose that you will benefit from, remember to discuss with your doctor your full medical history. You will need to mention any health conditions you have been diagnosed with that may potentially affect your treatment with Zithromax. Let your doctor know if you have a heart rhythm disorder, kidney disease, a history of Long QT syndrome, liver disease, or myasthenia gravis, as some of these conditions may require a dose adjustment, while others will have your health care provider monitor you for side effects throughout the period of your treatment. If you are taking the liquid form of this medicine, make sure you use a special measuring device. This way you will always be taking the exact dose prescribed and will avoid taking more. If you do not have a special device for the liquid form of Zithromax – ask your pharmacist for one, but never take this medicine using a regular spoon. If you happened to miss a dose, make sure you take it as soon as you remember. However, it may be too late if you will be taking the next dose pretty soon. In that case it’s recommended to skip the dose missed and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Never take a double dose of Zithromax.
